Passages
This exhibition, organised by the Studio Museum in Harlem, brings together works by 17 African-American artists, including MacArthur Foundation 'genius' grant recipient Kenny James Marshall. There are layered references to African-American history and culture, to laborious work in factories and agriculture, to music and nature, to tools and urban refuse like tires and broken glass. 'Passages' is consistent with the envelope-pushing vocabulary in contemporary art.
